The Sock Bun... a Do or and Don't?

It's one of the most trendy dos right now and I personally can't be more excited to talk about it. The sock bun.

Everyone is tired of throwing their hair up in any old way whether for work or for the gym. With the sock bun your hair is out of the way and looks classy. Simply roll it up in a sock and pin it. It's so simple even someone like me should be able to do it. Well, at least in theory. So what were my results after trying the latest trend? I personally have found a few flaws in the classy do. After the first several attempts I found it difficult to roll up my thick hair into the sock. My hair never came out looking perfect like others did. The other problem? My hair is so heavy it never stays up. For girls and guys like my who have heavy, thick, and long locks this do is a don't! Without the right amount of pins the bun will fall out and without the right amount of patience it won't even get rolled into the sock. For girls with normal or thin hair this do is perfect for you though. If you don't believe me take a sock and give it a try for yourself.

  1. To me this new trend is funny and nostalgic, being that my friends and I used to do sock buns when we were too lazy to actually do our hair in middle school. It's also funny because now they have created these things to make a sock bun, that doesn't require a sock.

  2. I had a similar experience doing my own sock bun. For the record, I didn't use an actual sock, but one of the foam ring things made specifically for making the bun. I think girls with really long and really thick hair have a harder time with this look. It didn't take me very long to make the bun, but it was hard to get all of my hair tucked into the bun. Also, I feel like it looked kind of ridiculous because it was so big. (again, really long and thick hair). I also think this hairstyle works better with straight hair (you'll notice all the tutorials for this look feature girls with straight hair for the most part). A hairstyle ceases to be "quick and easy" for me if I have to blow dry and straighten my hair first.
