Free People's Wild Flower Trend AD

This week I was shopping online and visited one of my favorite stores Free People. One of their trends that caught my eye was the Wildflower trend. I had an idea to create an Ad for the trend which I could see displayed on their website.

I first searched for the model I wanted to use, instead of the background. I wanted to work everything around her. I came across Frida Gustavsson who was featured in Morning Flowers for Vogue Nippon in 2010 at FashionGoneRogue. The image was very serene and gave me a lot to work with.

After I selected this image I needed to delete the background because she will be in a different setting. I used the Pen Tool to create an outline around her and then use the select tool which deletes everything outside the outline.

Now that my model is ready I need to find a Wildflower inspiring background. I came across this photography photo of spring pink plum blossoms from Esty. It is simple and my model will work well with this background.

Now that I have my background it's time to put my model into place. I used the Blur Tool to make her feel like she belongs in the photo. Next I added text and a granite overlay to the photo of purple and created another overlay of yellow.

At this time I wanted to overlay the two images. I thought this would give it an edgier look. Also create a theatrical glow effect. To do this you need to change the layer style to darken and turn down the opacity. Then move and rotate one of the images to where you want it so you can achieve this glow effect. After that I added more text and played with contrast to complete my Free People Wild Flower trend Ad.

  1. This is AMAZING! I love how you took us through a step by step process of how you edited the photo. The ones you created I could def see as a Free People ad or even as a dELiA*s ad in their magazine. This is really cool :)

  2. You continue to amaze me! This looks great! It definitely looks like an advertisement that you just ripped out of a magazine.

  3. Wow!!!! this is truly beautiful and creative!!! I love how u called it Free People Wild Flower because if you look at the first picture it's nice and soft then the final one you did it has a wild feeling going on.

  4. The fact that you gave us a step by step run down is very instructive. Basically if I went on to Photoshop (which i'm guessing is what you used) I feel confident, that I could at least attempt to do what you did (although I might not make it look as good as you did). You really need to showcase your talent out there to more of the world!

  5. I love that you put step by step instructions to show us how you did this. I am mildly hopeless at Photoshop so this was really helpful for more. I also like that you addressed the whole process of creating an ad, such as choosing the model. This is definitely an ad I could see for Free People, it's edgy but still has a "hippie" feel to it, which is an image I always associate with Free People.
