Beyond The Textbooks

I learned so much today which isn't anything new. This internship has allowed me the opportunity to get my feet wet. I'm not the typical intern who just ships packages and gets the coffee and the mail lol. I'm the intern who ships packages, places purchase orders, creates item numbers, talks to affiliates, works with inventory, profit margins, mark ups, customization on apparel, tagging samples and so on. I am very fortunate to be so involved because there are some internships where the person thinks that they are going to get experience and end up not doing what they thought they would be doing. I feel that this internship is teaching me things that the textbooks can't. It’s giving me a hands on approach and to me that’s the best way to learn.

  1. It is always good to find your internship is giving you the experience you need to get a job in the real field you study. That makes the internship more rewarding. As long as you are open to learning from your job the experiences will become more enriching and you will learn things you never thought you would.

  2. I think it is so awesome that you found a company that allows you to be really involved in all of the work. I definitely understand the point of "paying your dues" and doing things like running for coffee, ordering lunch, filing papers, etc., but I feel like companies would at times be better off to allow interns to be more involved, because it would give a fresh perspective to the company.
