During my second week of interning at
Merion Matters I learned so much more than I had the first week. I feel like
the first week was more of me getting to know the company as a whole and how
each department works with the buying department and me reading and
understanding my position as an intern. I like the fact that since the company
is so small I am able to get more involved and more hands on with certain
things. It allows me to see all of the aspects of buying and take part in that.
My boss is very good at lending a helping hand as well as teaching me new
things and explaining things in great detail. During my second week I was
taught how to check inventory online, how to get allocations for different
customers who wanted a certain product. I also had the chance to look at some
samples that were shipped to her. We looked at each sample and discussed the
customer’s needs and wants and if that particular product would satisfy them. My boss also let me keep a sample, which I thought was pretty cool too. I had the
opportunity to tag those samples as well. The thing I noticed about buying is
that you must be able to handle multitasking. My boss had me switching tasks like
crazy this week so I found myself taking a lot of notes so that I remembered
what she told me. I didn’t find multitasking that hard but did realize that I
need to stay on my toes and be ready for any and everything. All in all this
week was another success and I look forward to going each week and learning as
much as I can about the company I’m interning for as well as the industry.
I love how you seem so passionate about your internship. It's amazing that the fashion industry allows us to have so many different fields, that allow for different experiences. Seems like the buying industry can be more entertaining than I thought.
