Right Hand Girl: Day 1

It was two months ago that I walked into the studio of a well know fashion designer and was introduced to her small but highly capable crew. It included 2 full time seamstress and the designer herself that took care of all the patter making and even some late night sewing. Once i got to the studio I got the feeling that it wasn't gonna be a normal internship, that first day I became her right hand girl. instead of being asked to get coffee I was calling Mood Fabrics in NYC and ordering extra fabrics, instead of doing personal stuff for her or her staff she handed the reins of her upcoming fashion show over to me. That first day I had already scheduled three meetings to personally meet with the productions crew, the venue, and the people sponsoring the show. I'm not going to lie I was really really scared I've never had so much responsibility put on me so quickly, and being completely honest I wasn't sure if I was fully capable of executing all my tasks.

By this point of the day I was extremal stressed out since I got the feeling that she was going to take care for the creative side, we were 3 weeks away for the show and she was missing 18 pieces, and I would take care of actually running the show. I had no problem with that, I have 3 show producers in my family including my brother and my boyfriend so I knew I could always asked them for guidance. But the thing was that it was my first day and I really didn't know what the show was about. I needed baby steps or something to walk me through the process and then after that I could walk on my own, instead I was forced to learn how to run in ordered to succeed, which I did. So before I panicked out I sat down in the cutting room and asked her 101 questions about how she wanted the show so I could know what to say on the meetings. After that talk I stated to gain a full understanding of what she wanted to portray with her collections and the message she wanted to send out, i started to breath a little more easily now.

1 billion calls and 60 RSVP's later I decided to call it a night and leave the studio, I mean it was 7:30pm and I got there at 10:00am, since i had a long morning ahead of my.

Charity for our fashion show

Since one of our campus family members lost her daughter to leukemia, we are going to support a scholarship fund for leukemia patients to help with incidentals while going through treatment. Our color scheme will be based around orange, the ribbon color for leukemia.

Start thinking now....our class will meet on Tuesdays evenings and will feature student work this year!
